Mazi Afam Osigwe is a Notary Publice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He has had vast and in-depth experience in commercial and corporate legal advisory services, first with Chike Chigbue & Co. and then with Legal & Information Services Network. Through these positions he has advised clients on various aspects of Nigerian investment law. In particular, he has:
- Participated in the legal due diligence investigation of various companies in Nigeria during the process of their acquisition by foreign investors, mergers and or acquisition.
- Participated in the establishment of the subsidiaries of multinational companies in Nigeria.
- Provided day-to-day research assistance and support to senior colleagues in various law firms, banks and other financial institutions.
- Provided company secretarial services to clients in Nigeria, organizing and covering their Board and Annual General Meetings and other related functions.
- Engaged in day-to-day liaison with regulatory agencies in Nigeria to obtain licenses, permits and approvals on behalf of clients, mostly banks, investment and trading companies and oil companies.
- Participated in the negotiation, drafting and structuring of commercial agreements for clients in Nigeria.
- Undertaken legal representations for clients in courts as well as arbitration proceedings.
- Undertaken research and written papers on the Nigerian Maritime Cabotage regime.
Afam has been providing pro bono consultancy services to Non-Governmental Organizations on the subject of Human Rights in Africa. Afam has also provided pro bono legal representations for indigent persons. Afam has continued to associated with some law firms in Nigeria and has at various times liaised with them on international business law and competition law issues as they arose in the course of providing legal services to their clients. Afam has special interest in the following areas of law: Competition Law, with comparative aspect; Company and Business Law; Intellectual Property; International Commercial Law; Energy, Oil and Gas Law; Telecommunication Law and Maritime Law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nigeria and a Barrister at Law (Second Class Honours Upper Division,1999) from the Nigerian Law School and admitted to the Nigerian bar in 1999. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) Degree from the University of Jos. |
